untitled series #2, 2018
Victoria, Australia
42cm x 30cm inkjet prints

The completed body of work showcases five detailed prints in an contemporary approach to showcase woman’s fashion at night alongside my development of studios lighting skills outside of the studio. The series is an extension of untitled series #1, 2018/05 originally inspired by works by Diego Rivera – an American wedding and event photographer and videographer – posted to the “Learn to Light – An OCF Lighting Community” Facebook group on April 14, 2018. Untitled series #2, 2018/09 draws inspiration from the Australian cosplay photographers Leigh “Steamkittens” Hyland and Ian Stubber as well as the Australian portrait photographer Tony Delov and is an attempt to emulate their gel lighting styles onto the artists’ own style throughout the series

Following on from the previous series, all images lightly underexpose the ambient light from the background to create contrast from a hard light subject creating a contrast to draw the viewers’ attention away from the setting to the subject model. The addition of gel lights aims to create more drama and contrast with the ambient light. Opposed to untitled series #1, 2018/05, the balancing the quantity of light from the flash to correctly expose the model while underexposing the background was successful requiring no pseudo-vignetting required in post-production. The models in untitled series #2, 2018/09 were all centred in the frame to restrict the essence of space and scale lowlighting the city metropolis surrounding and focusing more attention towards the subject model.

The final series is presented on five A3 inkjet prints, printed on Ilford Smooth Pearl Paper and arranged in a singular row. The linear presentation of the series aims to link all images together as a series while presenting them as individual pieces.

Overall the series is successful in showcasing the the artists expansion of the original series within the given time constraints.
