City of Whittlesea, 2017
Inkjet Print
70cm x 40cm
The completed body of work showcases six detailed prints of the upcoming development area in the City of Whittlesea, one of Victoria’s northern suburbs. Aptly named ‘City of Whittlesea’, the series highlights the Doreen, Mernda, Wallan and South Morang areas in reflection towards the area which the artist grew up in and when to high school.
City of Whittlesea is heavily influenced by the photographic series ‘Park City’by the American visual artist and photographer, Lewis Baltz in both the presentation and conceptual meaning of the work. The series is presented on six 70cmx40cm inkjet prints, printed on Ilford Smooth Pearl Paper and arranged in a singular row. The linear presentation of the series aims to showcase the whole series as a continuous pseudo-panoramic image with minimal breaks to the horizon line.
The resulting body of work forms around conceptual idea of a timeline of the development of Melbourne’s northern suburbs in its simplistic form allowing a time capsule of the rural-urban fridge without the takeover of metropolis.
