Talk to Me: AiCV v210, 2024
Victoria, Australia
Performance & Projection Installation
Talk to Me: AiCV v210 is a spontaneous performance artwork in response to Machine Learning Models and Artificial Intelligence Chatbots being used in a university context. A drop sheet separates two participants, in front of the sheet, a laptop (as a speaker and instructions) and a microphone for the “input” participant; behind the sheet a chair, a microphone and instructions for the “output” participant.
The artwork invites a participant from the audience to interact with the projected image of a person initially feeding/giving the image information and then being able to ask for the given information back. The participant is then given an opportunity to participate as the machine learning model receiving information and providing it back to the next participant. The audience will also have the opportunity to discuss with the artist (posing as a university faculty member – and other audience members) their thoughts and feelings on the usage of machine learning models and artificial intelligent chatbots being used in a university context.
An open set of instructions is given to both participants. The input participant must call the output participant the “A.I.C.V” and can only ask questions/prompts based on information given. The output participant can only respond to “A.I.C.V”, output information given by input participant(s), or respond with “I can only tell you information you have told me”.
Talk to Me: AiCV v210 utilises the Deakin HF atrium space with the predefined presenter space connotations to showcase a “larger than life” head/face in addition to the “who’s behind the curtain?” curiosity spectacle. In addition to being on university grounds as the basis of the artwork’s prompt and a centralised area with regular foot traffic.
